We are happy to announce that the University of Paris 8 will host the collective exhibition „On the Edge of the Landscape. Coral, conservation of a territory“. The exhibition will take place in two venues consequently: at 7 pm it will be presented at University Library of the University of Paris 8, and at 8 pm the programme will continue at the Photo Studio A0-183 at the Department of Photography at the University of Paris 8.

At the Library the projects inspired by Coral Beach will be presented. The works include installations, land art, performance and video art, realized by students and teachers from France, Bulgaria and Ukraine. This part is dedicated to the theme of sustainability and resistance against the destructive impact of urbanization on nature. The second part of the exhibition presents projects created by students of the Master’s programme in Photography of the University of Paris 8. They explore the theme of landscape in the context of contemporary environmental and artistic issues, adding new photographic dimensions to the visual dialogue. This interdisciplinary, international, inter-university project inspired by Coral Beach combines art, ecology and cultural memory, exploring the relationship between nature and the contemporary world.

The exhibition is a continuation of the ERUA summer school of land art, installations, and design performance: “Save Coral Beach 2022” and it will present the works by researchers, students and artists who address environmental issues through artistic approaches. The projects were created during the „Save Coral“ traveling workshop organized by Boris Serginov and the NBU team at Coral Beach in 2023 and 2024.

The exhibition is organised in partnership and the support of the Department of Photography of Paris 8, the University Library of Paris 8, ERUA, Erasmus+, FSDIE, Crous, Futura and CIVD , the Central Fund for Strategic Development of the NBU Board of Trustees.

The exhibition will be continued with an International Scientific Conference „Landscapes in Crisis: Art, Resistance, Metamorphosis“

It will take place on the 10th  February 2025, 10:00-17:00 at the Maison de la Recherche Theater, University of Paris 8.

You can find the programme here.

These two events are part of international collaborations bringing together participants from Bulgaria, Ukraine and France to explore topical issues such as landscape conservation, socio-political tensions and art as a form of resistance.

We would be delighted to have you as our guests and to support these academic and artistic initiatives.
