Inventing the future together: Highlights from the ERUA Management committee meeting at MRU

Last week, representatives across the ERUA gathered at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) in Vilnius for the latest ERUA Management Committee meeting—a productive week of strategic planning, open dialogue, and bold visioning for the future of our alliance.

Beyond taking stock of ongoing initiatives, the meeting provided a key platform for high-level strategic exchanges between alliance leadership, committee members, and advisory board representatives.

Prof. Dr. Inga Žalėnienė, Rector of MRU, reflected on the profound transformation ahead for higher education, anticipating how student needs and institutional models will evolve over the next two decades. Emphasizing that ERUA has grown into a genuine, interconnected community, she highlighted the vast, unexplored research potential within the alliance that will drive future innovation and collaboration.

Adding to this vision, Dr. Arnaud Laimé, President of Université Paris 8 Vincennes – Saint-Denis, led ambitious and open discussions on ERUA’s strategic direction. He emphasized that building an alliance is a continuous journey.

Key contributions across the sessions underscored ERUA’s unique role in addressing contemporary global and academic challenges:

  • Research & Student-Led Process: Aligning research directly with educational reform, fostering active student participation, and addressing emerging topics like how Artificial Intelligence is reshaping information.
  • Academic Diplomacy & Peace: Connecting students and researchers across borders to promote peace, foster relations with non-academic partners, and strengthen ties with non-EU partners—particularly in Ukraine.
  • Continuous Transformation: Reaffirming that true reform means constantly adapting universities to meet modern needs while bridging strategy with on-the-ground reality.

Advisory Committee and Management Committee members reflected on the tangible progress made so far—from student-centered learning initiatives to a growing digital ecosystem—while looking ahead to upcoming milestones.

We extend our sincere thanks to our hosts at Mykolas Romeris University for their warm hospitality.

As ERUA continues to push boundaries and redefine cooperation across European higher education, the outcomes of this week’s discussions will guide our shared roadmap in the months and years ahead.
