The course will be structured in the following 10 mini-modules:
- Urbanization and Climate change (2h)
- Climate litigation (2h)
- Circular economy and waste management (2h)
- Energy (2h)
- Water (2h)
- Biodiversity (2h)
- One Health Strategy (2h)
- Participation and activism in environmental matters (2h)
- Human rights and environmental justice (2h)
- Final presentations and wrap-up discussion (2 h)
Each module will be articulated in:
1) presentations given by the instructor to introduce the theoretical and legislative framework;
2) Roundtables with scholars, practitioners and experts of the field and/or debates with the students.
Suggested readings and studying materials will be shared with the students over the course.
The Global Environmental Law course takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 2 pm to 4 pm. Lessons will start Wednesdays 18th of February 2026.
The course will be taken online via TEAMS with the opportunity to attend last week on-site at the University of Macerata
Learning outcomes
The course aims to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of global environmental issues and
the interactions between international, European, and national laws.
By the end of the course, students will have developed their skills in:
- Understanding the main critical issues in the global debate on environmental matters;
- Understanding the regulatory framework of the global environmental law topics covered;
- Identifying the interactions between global environmental law and other branches of public international law, such as human rights law and law & economics;
- Conducting research on global environmental law.

Who can apply
Master’s students from ERUA universities with Basic knowledge of public law or international law or constitutional law or of environmental issues
