SWPS University Celebrates First ERUA Day

On December 12, 2024, the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA) celebrated its first ERUA Day. It was an occasion for joint online meetings, lectures, and concerts as well as many local events taking place at all eight member universities located in Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, France, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, and Spain.

On the first anniversary of the coming together of eight universities from various European countries, the ERUA alliance reflected on the first year of its activities, celebrated achievements of the past 12 months, and prepared for the tasks and challenges of the upcoming year.

During the joint online opening ceremony, the ERUA Board of Rectors, presided by the new Chair — Prof. Dr. Inga Žalėnienė — welcomed students from all eight universities in a meeting held at the University Paris 8 in France. The opening address was followed by a classical music concert performed by a string quartet from the University of Macerata in Italy. After the concert, all ERUA students and academics had the opportunity to participate in a lecture on disinformation titled “How to Dissolve the Truth in 7 Simple Steps? The European Experience of Disinformation, which was broadcast from SWPS University in Warsaw, Poland.

Watch the lecture on disinformation “How to dissolve the truth in 7 simple steps? The European experience of disinformation”, which was delivered by Bartosz Kicior, Ph.D. form the Department of Journalism and Social Communication at SWPS University, on ERUA Day.

The rest of the day was filled with various events, including meetings with ERUA Ambassadors, presentations on mobility opportunities for students, an ERUA Quiz, DigiTalks on student organizations, and the Entrepreneurship Conference.

Additionally, SWPS University hosted 26 guests from Ukrainian universities (with more joining online) as part of the project titled “ER-UA Strengthening cooperation with Ukrainian universities within the European Universities Initiative”.

This  endeavour, funded by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), aims to foster collaboration between the ERUA Alliance and partner universities in Ukraine with respect to international education opportunities.

At the end of the day, all ERUA members came together online, once more, to cheer the successes of the past year and to officially close the ceremony.

We all look forward to another year of collaboration and advancing the creation of a shared university campus for ERUA members.ds

ERUA Day at Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder)

One Year of the renewed European Reform University Alliance – ERUA: Not only has the network, consisting of eight European universities, celebrated its existence. Over the past twelve months, ERUA activities at Viadrina have grown on many levels—whether in student engagement, administration, or research. To create an even clearer understanding of the goals of membership, the Viadrina team discussed the further objectives of membership on ERUA Day. In addition to the internal workshop and various online formats from the partner universities, there was also a reception for the ERUA community.

At Viadrina, the day began with a breakfast with experts from the region. Stakeholders from administration, non-governmental organizations, (social) entrepreneurship, and civil society participated in a case study on “Social Entrepreneurship for Social Change”, focusing on identifying relevant social challenges and business opportunities in the context of the ERUA universities. The participants gathered at the Gründungszentrum (Founding Center) of Viadrina to discuss the study’s results over a pre-Christmas breakfast and identify further connections between the university and the region.

Following the official opening, the ERUA team at Viadrina participated in an intensive workshop to align on the future goals of ERUA. The team members exchanged views on the added value of ERUA for Viadrina and its future objectives. The conclusion of the intensive exchange: ERUA is a great opportunity to strengthen what Viadrina already stands for.

The ERUA Day at Viadrina concluded with a small reception for the ERUA community. Students, researchers, and staff from Viadrina, who have already been involved in the network, gathered to celebrate the one-year anniversary – and everything that is yet to come!

On December 10th, the MRU community celebrated the first anniversary of ERUA – the European Reform University Alliance!

The day began with an extended MRU Rectorate meeting, where all working package coordinators presented their achievements from the past year and discussed plans for the future.

Rector Prof. Dr. Inga Žalėnienė delivered a warm speech, reflecting on a successful year, and invited everyone to enjoy a special cake prepared for the occasion. The MRU community enjoyed meaningful conversations, captured memorable moments, and celebrated this milestone together.

The Celebrations continued On December 14th, with Mykolas Romeris University hosting the ERUA Hackathon, a vibrant gathering of students and experts from across Europe. Coinciding with the 1st anniversary of ERUA the hackaton was a truly symbolic occasion to celebrate collaboration, creativity, and shared values.

The fourth edition of this annual hackathon, held twice a year, brought together over 80 participants from various countries and disciplines, including MRU’s Business Management and Startup Building program, international and Lithuanian students, undergraduate and master’s students from other programs, as well as professionals from diverse fields such as sports management, business administration, law, communications, economics, and business management
