Dates: 25 – 29 January 2027
Location: University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC)
Format: hybrid
The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is organizing the intensive course “The Role and Contribution of Women in Society: An Interdisciplinary Flipped Learning Program,” which focuses on women’s contributions to society from various disciplines, with a special emphasis on entrepreneurship, gender equality, and social innovation.
The course aims to analyze how women generate economic, professional, cultural, and social value, and how factors such as gender, age, and social context can influence their opportunities. It also pays special attention to middle-aged and older women, highlighting their experience, knowledge, and ability to drive initiatives and develop new career paths.
Course Content
The program combines different perspectives to address the role of women in society. Topics to be covered include women’s entrepreneurship, leadership, career reinvention, gender equality, the creation of social value, and community engagement.
The course will also examine how women can drive social entrepreneurship initiatives and develop solutions to meet the needs of their communities. To this end, participants will work with case studies and tools such as the Social Business Model Canvas, which enables them to design and structure social entrepreneurship projects.
The course also includes an analysis of “Puente de generaciones,” a project developed by participants in the ULPGC’s Senior Training Program to address unwanted loneliness and foster intergenerational relationships. This case study will provide an opportunity to reflect on the social, legal, and ethical dimensions of the initiative and its potential application in other European contexts.
Methodology
The course will follow a flipped learning methodology. Before the in-person phase, students will complete preparatory online activities, including readings, videos, case studies, and reflective assignments.
The intensive in-person phase will take place at the ULPGC and will combine seminars, interactive workshops, case studies, and teamwork. Participants will be organized into international and interdisciplinary groups to develop a joint project related to the course topics.
The projects may take various forms, such as social entrepreneurship proposals, sustainability plans, communication campaigns, educational materials, or recommendations to promote equality. After the in-person phase, the groups will revise their work based on the feedback received, and each student will write an individual reflection on the learning process.
Evaluation
The assessment will take into account both individual work and participation in activities and the collaborative project. The following will be evaluated: completion of online preparatory assignments, active participation in seminars and workshops, the development of a group project and its final presentation, as well as an individual reflection on learning and interdisciplinary work.
The grade will be distributed as follows:
- 20%: preparatory activities and online participation.
- 20%: participation in seminars and workshops.
- 40%: collaborative project and final presentation.
- 20%: individual reflection on the learning process.
To earn the 3 ECTS credits, students must successfully complete the activities and assignments outlined in the course.
