About the Programme
The ERUA Framework for Research-Oriented Academic Mobility offers Early Career Researchers, the opportunity to integrate into a research programme at a partner university for a period of 2 to 12 months.
This long-term mobility track is designed to strengthen international research connections, support individual academic trajectories, and contribute to the career progression of ECRs across the ERUA network. This initiative is intended to become a sustainable, long-term mobility scheme among ERUA partner universities.
Long-term mobility may include:
- Integration into an ongoing research programme
- Participation in scientific seminars
- Occasional teaching assignments (lectures or course contributions)
- Internship opportunities
- Strengthening of academic networks
- Applying to ERUA, European, or national funding/project calls
- Building connections that may lead to postdoctoral opportunities
Funding may be provided through Erasmus+, national funding schemes, or the researcher’s affiliated research unit. Applicants are responsible for securing their own funding for this type of mobility. ERUA does not provide mobility grants under this scheme.
Who Can Apply?
- Doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers (R1/R2) affiliated with an ERUA partner university
- Applicants must have identified and reached prior agreement with a senior researcher or host laboratory at the receiving institution before submitting the application

Eligibility Criteria
- Quality and relevance of the proposed mobility project
- Priority given to doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers
- The mobility project must be closely aligned with the applicant’s specific field of study — directly connected to their personal research agenda, doctoral dissertation, or area of expertise (this is distinct from research cluster–based mobility)
- Realistic and achievable mobility outcomes; priority given to projects expected to lead to future collaborative research project applications
Required Documents
- Motivation letter outlining the relevance and necessity of the mobility project, its objectives, and expected concrete outcomes (publications, collaborative research activities, training initiatives, dissemination activities)
- Letter from the Doctoral School (or equivalent administrative unit) of the sending university, confirming the applicant is in good academic and administrative standing
- Letter of support from the host laboratory, research unit, or senior researcher validating the mobility
- Signed mobility charter, confirmed by both parties, outlining the conditions of the stay
How to Apply
Applications are submitted via the online form on the ERUA ECR Support Platform and Toolbox.
Before applying, applicants must contact a senior researcher at the intended host university and reach an agreement on the collaboration and mobility proposal.
Note: Applicants should factor the two-week evaluation period and University Paris 8’s holydays into their planning, and allow sufficient time for mobility grant application and processing procedures ahead of their intended departure date.
