As we are about to celebrate the International Gender Equality Day we at ERUA are presenting you with some data to show that for us equality is actually a reality.
Each of our member universities is willing to go the extra mile in ensuring that equal opportunities are „not just ideals—they are the foundation of who we are“. As the colleques fro MRU put it: “we stand for an inclusive academic environment where talent, ambition, and innovation thrive beyond any limits“.
As the graph shows we have travelled a long way in realizing these goals (graph with numbers – here) with the percentage of women in our institutions firmly standing above 50%.
It is our ambition to lead in every way possible in addressing and overcoming the modern and contemporary challenges that women and non-binary people face: linguistic sexism and gender issues for faculty, administrative staff, and students; supporting victims of discrimination; integrating gender courses in our programmes; incorporating gender perspectives in research projects; supporting postgraduate studies and research on gender issues; providing gender expertise to local communities and external organizations; and establishing collaboration protocols with other universities, regional committees, government bodies, and international networks to advance gender equality in education and research.
As Janine Nuyken, Vice President of European University Viadrina (the first Vice President as a Member of the Non-Academic staff, on board for over 20 years) puts it:
“Equal opportunities for all is our goal, which continues to motivate us to actively promote women and non-binary people, especially in academia and professorships”.
Join us in celebrating the International Gender Equality Day and on this occasion lets us “reaffirm our commitment to empowering women, fostering inclusive leadership, and ensuring that every student, lecturer, and staff member has the opportunity to grow, be heard, and make an impact“.
We believe that higher education should be a space where equality is not just promoted but lived every day.
