ERUA and Paris 8 University are announcing an intensive course “Art in public spaces” that will take place in Paris 8 University, between the 19th and the 23th of May. In this course, students will have the chance to study the relationship between artworks and their environment.

Starting from the observation of historic and contemporary works – ranging from monuments to street art – we will question the different forms of dialogue between art and public space, including their urban, cultural and political context.

As most of the sessions take place in the city, students are advised to plan their own local transportation tickets and to wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

The course aims to develop and improve critical thinking, while study the complex relationship between art and politics in the urban environment.

Assessment methods:

Students will be evaluated on the knowledge acquired during the lectures and walks and through a series of short readings. Upon the successful completion of the course  6 ECTS will be awarded.

Who can apply:

The course is open for 12 ERUA students in arts or humanities at 3rd or 4th year of their Bachelor studies. A B2 level in English is required.
