We are happy to announce that Lluís Serra Majem, has been reelected as a Rector of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC).
The provisional results of these elections confirm that the candidate and current Rector, Lluís Serra, won with 51.03% of the weighted votes, against the other candidate, Gregorio Rodríguez Herrera, who obtained 48.97% of the weighted votes.
Lluís Serra is Professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health. His lines of research include the study of nutrition as a determinant of public health, nutritional epidemiology and obesity, public policies on food and nutrition and the Mediterranean diet as a healthy and sustainable dietary pattern, among others. He has supervised 45 doctoral theses. He is the author of more than 700 indexed scientific articles and 80 books and is among the 100 most cited scientists in Spain, being the first in the Canary Islands, with an H index of 100.
He has held the position of director of the Department of Clinical Sciences at the ULPGC between 1997 and 2010 and was the driving force and director of the University Institute of Biomedical and Health Research from 2013 to 2021. He is currently Rector of the ULPGC.
