The Young Forum for Action on Climate Change—an initiative to empower young leaders and professionals committed to tackling climate change through international collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and hands-on action. This forum is led by students and brings together students, professors, and experts from ERUA institutions and beyond, to create a diverse, multidisciplinary network of climate-focused individuals ready to drive change on our campuses first, as well as on a regional, European and global scale.

Actions and Actors of the Forum

The Team

The Forum is an action led by a team of students at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and supported by students and staff in the framework of ERUA’s student engagement. As a first step, three discussion and workshop events took place in 2024, led by students of Marine Sciences at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Students for Climate Justice Initiative at the European University Viadrina. Those workshops resulted in a joint mapping of local initiatives at each ERUA campus and raising awareness about climate change within the ERUA student engagement team first.

The commission

A call for students for a commission was launched in November 2024. The commission consists of students with expertise in climate action from various disciplines and will invite further experts and – supported by local staff – organize workshops, lectures and actions, that will be broadcasted online within ERUA and serve the sharing of knowledge in preparation of the in-person forum in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The Forum

In June-July 2025, the student-led Young Forum for Action on Climate change will take place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, involving students, professors, staff and societal actors and resulting in policies and actions for our ERUA campuses and beyond.

The Objectives

– Create a training environment
– Establish a network of sustainability and climate action experts
– Share perspectives on climate challenges
– Promote and advocate for sustainability initiatives within ERUA and beyond

Who Can Participate?

We invite students and professors from all disciplines who have experience in or a strong interest in climate action, and who are motivated to contribute to project development, knowledge exchange, and hands-on initiatives to combat the climate crisis.
