Outcomes Aligned with ERUA Values

This traveling seminar embodied the core values of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA) by fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, cultural exchange, and innovative learning pathways.

  • Cultural Exchange and Cross-Collaboration:
    • Bulgarian pedagogy students, who are preparing to teach children aged 6-10 (Grades 1-4), collaborated with Spanish students aiming to teach adults English as a second language. This created a unique opportunity for cross-generational and cross-cultural understanding.
  • Integration of SEL Principles:
    • The seminar emphasized SEL principles, such as empathy, emotional intelligence, and social awareness, which are critical for building inclusive and supportive learning environments.
    • Both groups practiced these principles through interactive tasks, group discussions, and shared presentations.
  • Professional Development:
    • Students gained insights into innovative teaching methods and cultural dynamics, enriching their perspectives and preparing them for diverse educational challenges.
    • Bulgarian students demonstrated exceptional adaptability, engaging deeply with all seminar activities, which will strengthen their teaching competence.
  • Shared Educational Goals:
    • The seminar highlighted the shared goal of teaching English as a medium for global communication and intercultural dialogue, preparing future educators to inspire their students with both language proficiency and cultural sensitivity.

Conclusion

This seminar successfully achieved its objectives by integrating Social and Emotional Learning with cross-cultural collaboration. Both Bulgarian and Spanish students benefited from engaging in meaningful discussions, innovative teaching methods, and reflective group work, which reinforced their readiness to become empathetic and effective educators in their respective fields.

The workshop aims to provide early-career researchers, primarily from the social sciences and humanities (SSH) and the arts, with valuable insights and practical guidance on how to pursue successful non-academic careers after completing their doctoral studies. By providing a platform for experienced professionals to share their journeys and expertise, and by offering tailored workshops, participants will be better prepared to navigate diverse career options outside the traditional academic realm.

The workshop is organized within the framework of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA), which includes five recently founded reform universities in France, Denmark, Germany, Greece and Bulgaria. Participation is free for ERUA members. Travel and accommodation may be covered by the ERUA or Erasmus+ programs, depending on the rules of each institution.

The two-day workshop on “Exploring Pathways Beyond Academia” aims to empower early career researchers in SSH and arts disciplines to make informed decisions about their career trajectories. By learning from experienced professionals and participating in practical workshops, participants will be better equipped to embark on successful non-academic journeys and contribute their expertise to various sectors beyond academia.

The workshop is a three-day event, aiming the development and mentoring of PhD students and post doctoral researchers, from all disciplines, whose interest focuses on Scientific Entrepreneurship. It is open to early career researchers, who are thinking about translating their research into commercial innovation, now or in future, or be in a start up, or in a social enterprise, or industry/SME collaboration. It allows also building a network of peers coming from various backgrounds, institutions, disciplines and countries. It offers training/coaching and provides an opportunity for interaction amongst senior and early career researchers, introducing the practicalities and mindset needed to be successful in developing their innovation efforts.

In order to ensure optimal interaction and dialogue, we have limited the workshop to 25-30 participants (5-6 from each university).

Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA PFs) target postdocs (with no more than 8 years of experience after the completion of their PhD) who wish to carry out their research activities abroad, acquire new skills, develop their careers and improve employability by gaining experience in other countries, disciplines and non-academic sectors. These postdoctoral fellowships spread excellence in research and they are based on knowledge transfer between fellows and their host(s), with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinarity and intersectoral experience. MSCA PFs allow candidates to extend their international network as well as to enhance their professional reputation as a researcher. On the other hand, hosting an MSCA Postdoctoral Fellow allows established group leaders to work with the most brilliant postdocs in their field that bring additional expertise to the research group.

Target group: Early-career researchers with motivation to develop and engage in intradisciplinary collaboration

On behalf of the European Reform University Alliance, we would like to invite you to participate in a two-day workshop “Interdisciplinary research and engaging non-academic sectors. The workshop will focus on what kind of collaboration you need to develop an interdisciplinary research approach and how you can build collaboration with both academic and non-academic partners.

The purpose of the workshop is to facilitate exchange of experience around development of interdisciplinary research. Developing an interdisciplinary research approach is increasingly important for strategic research and increasing the impact of research. The workshop will provide an understanding of interdisciplinary research and how to engage with non-academic sectors.

In order to ensure optimal interaction and dialogue between early-career researchers and senior researchers we have limited the workshop to 25 participants (5 from each University), so we would kindly ask you to send a short description of your research area and motivation for participating in the workshop (up to 1 page) no later than 15 November 2022 to the representative at your university, listed below:

Digitalization is currently probably the most significant technological trend for society and business. Moreover, digitization is constantly transforming the way we conduct research, providing researchers with additional opportunities to implement their creative ideas and to collaborate intensively with others around the world.

The purpose of the workshop is to facilitate exchange of experience between early-career researchers and senior researchers in the various areas of Open science and their potential benefits and the ways to utilize the opportunities provided by digitalization in terms of research formulation, publication, collaboration, and funding opportunities.
The starting point for the workshop will be to broadly identify the various aspects in which digitalization affects the way research is funded, conducted, and disseminated. Then the different features and areas of Open science will be defined and discussed – open access to publications and research data, open methodology, open peer review, open educational resources, science communication, etc., focusing on the potential benefits and risks for early-career researchers. A specific emphasis will be put on the possibilities that digitalization of research and open science provide in terms of collaboration and networking. Early-career researchers will be given the opportunity to present their ideas for the possible application of digital technology and Open science in their own research, as well as for collaboration. Early-career researchers will receive feedback and coaching from experience researchers and research support staff.
